"Be ever ready to tell them the reason for your hope."

1 Peter 3:15
Our Beginnings...
The initial group of Sisters began as an off-shoot of the
Friars of the Sick Poor which were founded by Bro.
Richard A. Hirbe in 2002.  In September of 2002,
Bro. Richard initially invited Sister Laura M. Sanchez to
start the group of the Sisters. However, Sister Laura
waited until January of 2003 to contact other women to
inquire if they were interested in being part of the original
group that would begin the Sisters of the Sick Poor of
Los Angeles.
February 11, 2003
On this day, we had the first interview with Sr.
Mary Faith Clarke SHNJM, Vicar for Women
Religious in the Archdiocese, Feast of Our Lady
of Lourdes.  The interview was arranged by Bro.
Richard A. Hirbe who also accompanied the
Sisters to the interview.
July 1, 2003

In May, 2003 the short process of revisions leading to the approval of the
Association's Statutes began.  In July 1st, 2003, feast of blessed Junipero Serra,
founder of the California Missions, the Statutes were approved and signed by His
Eminence Cardinal Roger M. Mahony, Archbishop of Los Angeles.

The Instalation Ceremony

In September 14, 2003, feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the canonical
installation was celebrated with a Mass presided by the late Auxiliary Bishop of San
Bernardino, Most Rev. Dennis P. O'Neil, former pastor of St. Emydius Catholic
Church in Lynwood, California where the event took place.
